Adult Orthodontics: What are Your Options?

For the most part, adults have the same orthodontic options as older children and teens. If you’re self-conscious about wearing metal braces in your adult years, you can choose a more discreet treatment, such as clear aligners, lingual, or ceramic braces. Lingual braces are attached to the back of your teeth, keeping them well hidden from view. If optics aren’t a problem, traditional metal braces may be a good choice for you, especially for correcting complex alignment issues. As each treatment is unique, there’s no set time frame for completion. In general, however, adult orthodontic procedures can take between 12 and 36 months to complete, depending on the complexity of your treatment.

We’ll remove your braces and give you a final retainer to wear to keep your teeth in their newly straightened position. In the beginning, you may wear the retainer full-time. After some time, it will only be worn at night. Wearing your retainer as instructed can help keep your smile in perfect alignment indefinitely.
